![]() Amazon is striving for total domination of the retail marketplace. Unlike any other retail company, amazon has the ability to rule the field. Black Friday was highly outrun by Amazon’s “Prime Day”. The amazon prime 6 or 12-month commitment has customers going directly to Amazon when they are looking to purchase products. There is also no denying that Amazon is on a roll after reporting the 2013 holiday shopping season was its best yet with more than 36.8 million items ordered worldwide on Cyber Monday alone and continues building its momentum to increase market share. Amazon Prime day and Cyber Monday have left online shoppers looking like this... Media Analyst and Digital consultant, Chris Sheridan said on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street ", “we started to see earlier this year a re-acceleration of revenue growth for the e-commerce business at Amazon, and we think that was part of a flywheel”. In the flywheel, initially, there is no movement and many people disregard the strategy. Yet, as more results accumulate, more and more people join behind the movement, the momentum of the flywheel builds. Amazon is known for their flywheel effect. Amazon has recently opened their first couple bookstores from Seattle to San Diego to Boston. This expansion is head on competition with Barnes and Noble who continues to be their largest competitor in the book market. Another example of Amazon's fly wheel effect is their new food delivery services. Forbes published an article on April 30th, 2016, titled “Amazon.com Continues to Take Over the World, Expanding Restaurant Delivery Service to Another City”. Writer and food business extraordinaire, Geoff Williams, notes that Amazons food delivery program that began last year in San Francisco has now expanded to is now to San Diego, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Austin and Portland. The article claims that Amazon provides food delivery within the hour and comes ‘free’ for now with a Prime membership in specified cities. Many restaurant owners are not thrilled with this food delivery because the risk of having food not delivered as is was planned to be presented and could be lukewarm. Although the food delivery has just begun and needs time to improve, Amazon has shown they can enter into a variety of markets and become a big competitor in a very short amount of time. Amazon took the world by storm with Amazon prime that now has 63 million members. These members spend on average $1,200, compared with $500 for non-members. Amazon added a net 19 million members since July 2015, 3 million more than the calendar year before. Amazon Prime has also expanded into TV, music, and person photo storage for customers. These changes are being implemented into the everyday life of members, expanding Amazon's business even further. Everyday Amazon is proving more and more that where ever they decide to enter the retail market, they have the ability to be very successful. With Amazon prime memberships still on the rise paired with the innovation and trustworthiness of Amazon’s name, more and more people are jumping behind the Amazon train that nobody can predict the destination for, we are all just along for the ride (and the free shipping).
